Discover Peru's sacred land of the Incas and the Amazon Jungle
Visit the birthplace of the great Inca civilisation. Start your journey in the sprawling desert city of Lima, and continue to the cobblestone streets of the Andean town of Cuzco. Visit the Sacred valley, immerse yourself in the local culture, and test your stamina with a short two day trek. Marvel at Machu Picchu, and end your Andean journey exploring the Amazon Jungle.
Day 1 Lima
Welcome to Peru! You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Lima. The rest of the day is free to explore Lima.
Day 2 Cusco
Take a morning flight to Cusco. You will be transferred to your Hotel and this afternoon you can enjoy a city walking tour to help you get acquainted with Cusco.
Day 3 Cusco - Maras Moray Salineras hike
Today we take lovely daytrip to visit Moray, perhaps the most unusual of the Inca ruins and then descend to Sacred Valley of the Incas, via the salt mines at Salineras.
En-route we will visit an Awana Wasi (local textile cooperative of weavers) for a traditional weaving demonstration.
Day 4 Cusco
Today you get the chance participate in the Chichubamba Agrotourism project – this is an excellent way to learn more about the local’s way of life and Peruvian customs. The workshops are presented by community members who have received training in presentations and are experts in their field.
You can choose 3 workshops that interest you from ceramics, chocolate making, Chicha (typical maize drink) preparation, Bee keeping, Flower growing, Weaving, Coffee processing and Guinea pig raising.
Day 5 Cusco
Free day to have a wander round the city itself maybe do some souvenir shopping. An easy relaxing day to prepare for your trek tomorrow!
Day 6 – 7 Huchuy Qosqo Trek
The Huchuy Qosqo trek enables you to cross from Cusco to the Sacred Valley, with spectacular views of the Sacred Valley. Even though it would appear to be in a populated area, you soon discover the true wildness of the Andes. Gain appreciation of the isolated lives that the Andean Indians.
This is considered an easy hike by Andean standards, but the highest altitude is 4000m so you should still be prepared to climb for quite a few hours.
Distance walked: Day 1 – 12km & Day 2 – 4km
After the hike we take the afternoon train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes.
Day 8 Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo
Early in the morning (before dawn) we will take a bus up to the ruins of Machu Picchu. so that you can appreciate sunrise from the Watchman's Hut (or Inti Punku if you get up very early). You will then have a three hour guided tour of Machu Picchu with your guide.
In the afternoon we take the train back to Ollantayambo.
Day 9 Ollantaytambo – Cusco
This morning you will be collected at your hotel and transferred to Natura Vive for your zip-line adventure. The Sacred Valley zip-line gives people of all ages the opportunity to fly over this magical and magnificent valley, in a safe and fun way. The zip line has 7 lines or cables, from 150mt to 500mt, for a total of 2500mt.
After you adventure you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco.
Day 10 - 12 Amazon Lodge
This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado and the beginning of your 4 day 3 night Amazonian adventure. We will be staying at the eco-lodge Iotawa in the buffer zone of the Tambopata national reserve, an area with pristine forest and natural bamboo patches that host a large variety of birds, mammals, insects and reptiles.
During our stay here we will visit a local family and have a traditional lunch with them, explore Lake Tres Chimbadas, try our hand at piraña fishing, observe the activity of the macaws, parrots and parakeets at La Torre clay lick, casting animal footprints as souvenirs, enjoy a nocturnal boat ride and do some cayman spotting.
Day 13 Lima
After an early breakfast you will board your flight back to Lima. You will be met at Lima Airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore Lima.
Day 14 Lima
Your adventure comes to an end with a transfer to the airport for your flight home.
