Travel through Egypt and Jordan and become acquainted with traditional Middle Eastern culture
Make like Arabian merchants of old and embark on a Middle Eastern expedition from the chaotic streets of Cairo to the steadied atmosphere of Amman. Wander around the legendary Pyramids of Giza, unravel the mystery of the Sphinx and set off down river on a Nile felucca cruise. Weave a course through the ancient caravan route town of Aswan. Then cross the Gulf of Aqaba into Jordan, witness the dramatic desert landscapes of Wadi Rum and be awed by the temples of Petra. Far more than simply a sparse region of sand, pyramids and camels, this trip delves into the cultures of these ancient and enigmatic nations.
Days 1-2 Cairo
Wonderfully chaotic and always colourful, Cairo is a fascinating mixture of modern city and ancient wonders.
Day 3 Luxor
From the spectacular temple complex of Karnak to the Valley of the Kings, Luxor is full of wonderfully preserved reminders of the Pharaohs.
Days 4-6 Nile Cruise
Experience the ancient wonders of the Valley of the Kings. Just watch your step - over 60 pharaohs are (or were) buried under the surrounding hills. Hop on board a riverboat and begin a cruise down the famed Nile.
Days 7 Aswan
The Nile, Elephantine Island and white-sailed feluccas: welcome to Aswan. This Nubian city is Egypt's southern gateway to Africa and an important market town - take time here to check out one of the country's best bazaars.
Day 8 Cairo
By far the largest city in Africa, Cairo is a bustling metropolis with an abundance of noise and energy in its streets and markets.
Day 9 - 10 Amman
Fly over the Suez Canal and into the Jordanian capital of Amman. As one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, Amman has plenty to pique the interest.
Day 11 Aqaba
Blessed with idyllic beaches and world-class dive spots, the resort town of Aqaba is Jordan's seaside playground and a fun place to chill out.
Day 12 Wadi Rum
Full of weird and beautiful lunar-like rock formations, Wadi Rum is home to some of the most sublime desert landscape on the planet.
Days 13-14 Petra
Hewn out of the rose-coloured rock face, the ancient Nabataean city of Petra is one of the Middle East's most spectacular destinations, and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
Days 15-17 Amman
Take a swim of a most unusual kind in the Dead Sea – one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. Locals swear by the mud’s skin rejuvenating properties – slap some on and see what it does for you before driving the final leg back to Amman.
